Road Rash
by Led on Jul.13, 2010, under Blog
This week after launching the YouTube channel for LED GRAFFITI, we saw the first video posted by the band. It’s from the most recent gig. And as the hammer of the gods would have it, it was filmed in the same venue where we’ll be playing in a couple of weeks for the LED to Lafayette show. But the band in the video is so 3 months ago… what the heck have we been doing since then? Other than jamming on a whole lotta Zeppelin every Tuesday night with a whole other Zep band comprised of a huge kick ass Guitar Army of zherreding Zepaholics?
The band continues to grow, to reach, and to define itself. The one constant remains… make sure the music is right! In the past 3 months we’ve heard from a lot of Zeppelin fans. Which is both inspiring and humbling. What are the top song selections, top albums, favorite artwork, and best live concert? Zep fans can talk Zep for days. But above all, the music has a legacy and LG takes that seriously… don’t mess with the Zep! (~ Rich).
And what else…?
Lorraine Williams – the singer/songwriter/musician/actress and vocalist for LED GRAFFITI recently stared in a theater role as the Disney villain Ursula. Produced by the “Wish Upon a Star – Peter Pan Foundation,” the organization supports children and hospitals in the Bay Area community. Right now, when Lo is not singing to the western shores of Immigrant lands with LED, or racing her motorbike, she flexes her pipes singing cool songs in “The Totally Awesome Musical – Back to the 80’s.” Check it out July 29 to Aug 1 at the Performing Arts Center 321 Golf Club Road Pleasant Hill CA.
Rich Montero – has been marveling at the glorious layers of instrumental parts in the songs of Physical Graffiti and Presence. Bands don’t write 7-minute songs like that anymore! Figuring out how to approach playing JP’s compositions and improvisations in a live setting is it’s own reward. And the new Plexi Tone pedal is still very cool. Now wondering where to get something that sounds like a Sitar, and still have room on the pedal board? And the Voodoo Vibe pedal found its way into the rotation again. It has a very “Tangerine” quality to it. And, most important, wondering if the new packagings of GHS Boomer strings are not as lively as the old ones. Maybe something about that hermetically sealed stuff? Hmmm… gear on!
Jim Mergens – has been playing in more gigs that all of us! His musical projects run the range from contemporary to classic. Jim’s recent and upcoming shows with his bands “G6″, and the “Red House All Stars” keeps him playing around the clock. There is a big demand for those ripping bass lines!
Barbara Gorin – Barbara just wrapped up another successful event for her foundation Guitars Not Guns. And the next GNG event is about to start up already! Between organizing shows for GNG, fund raising for music schools, singing and playing guitar for TWO Zep bands RHOTH and LED GRAFFITI, Barbara has the music thing going on! When is NAMM again?
Adam Briere – recently got a hair cut. What else… lets see… oh yeah. He joined up with a 12-piece jazz orchestra. The modern jazz combo will begin touring and performing for the holiday season. And, not to get all formal about it, Adam is featured on a recent video released by his all-original band “La Drone.” Check for Adam soon to be appearing everywhere!
